What, Why, Where, How Come

Disturbance Regime:   A concept that describes a pattern of disturbances that shape a system over a long time scale. A disturbance regime is distinguished from a single disturbance event because it describes a spatial disturbance pattern, a frequency and intensity of disturbances, and a resulting pattern over space and time.

I hear the phrase "distrubance regime" in the context of my work often, but last time I heard it uttered, for some strange reason it took on an a surprising shift of context - it virtually cried out to me to create a blog in its name.  Something unexpected was fomenting in my head.  And now when I read over the definition above, it strikes me as exceptionally apt and flexible in terms of its potential to serve as an overarching concept for matters that inspire me to reflect upon in this "interesting" day and age.

So a moment of inspiration led me here. Inspiration for self expression, information, discussion. Suffice it to say that the list of things that are most likely to appear in these pages are topics that I think about and ponder about often, but seldom if ever have the chance to talk about in casual social in-person company.  The topics are part of the direction my life has taken over the past 46 years.  I reserve the right to modify, add, and delete as I see fit, or as either personal or external world events dictate.

In list of no particular order:

peak oil
Zen Buddhist practice/meditation
sustainability/sustainable living
peak oil transition movement
trajectory of descent: social, cultural, economic
world/national historical perspective
yoga
music: guitar playing, flute playing ("irish" simple system flutes, shakuhachi, bansuri)
ecology and conservation
personal musings
middle aged male singledom
and just maybe....college football

In the end, few may notice or care, which is fine.  This is an experiment, borne at least in part of the type of peculiar isolation that can occur in life in the USA, 2010 that fits part of my experience of life.  I'm not even sure how much time I will be able to put into these pages.  They may be as dead as the floor of the Gulf of Mexico in and around the Manocondo well site.  We'll see how sustainable this all is, given other priorities in my life and a general sense to spend less rather than more time in front of a screen.  I use a pseudonym, because I am largely a private person.
